Old Mutual launches funeral services business unit

HARARE – Old Mutual, a leading financial services group in Zimbabwe, has launched a fully-fledged funeral service aimed at increasing customer benefits and providing a one-stop service to customers.

The service, which was launched by the company at a colorful event in Harare on Friday, answered customers’ call for tangible funeral services in addition to the cash benefit offered by Old Mutual.

Old Mutual offers a top of the line funeral service which includes services such as water barrel, national bus service and family courtesy vehicle.

The Family Courtesy Vehicle is the first of its kind in the funeral services industry and during funeral arrangements, the vehicle can be used by the bereaved family for any logistical needs.

“At Old Mutual, we believe in being lifelong partners to our customers, from the time they start budgeting or investing through to celebrating life with a worthy shipment,” said Samuel Matsekete, Director General of the Old Mutual group.

The good news is that the new funeral service eases the financial pressure and logistical burden that our customers have had to endure at a very difficult time.

“Our experienced, professional and empathetic staff will ensure that each client receives personalized service to ease their burden,” said Rutendo Magorimbo, Managing Director of Old Mutual Life Assurance.

For every Zimbabwean, giving a loved one a decent burial plays an important role in “our culture”.

But funerals in their nature are an unforeseen expense that usually cost a lot of money, especially if you are not covered by a good funeral policy.

This is where the Old Mutual Flexi funeral plan comes in, because it offers a better financial package. Each package comes with a standard cash payout for all plans where a minimum of $250 up to $1,000 is paid out.

Premiums are very affordable starting as low as US$3 per month.

There is also 100% cash in lieu where you can request a withdrawal if a beneficiary’s funeral was covered by another funeral policy.

Plus, the plan offers free coverage for biological children and no waiting period if you migrate from another funeral policy.

“We have launched the funeral service in three branches – two in Bulawayo and one in Harare – and we look forward to launching three more branches before the end of the year.

“Old Mutual has its own funeral homes and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist with the collection of deceased persons at the salon, the repatriation of the diaspora, the organization with a doctor of the issuance of a obituaries, obtaining a death certificate and processing a funeral claim,” Ms. Magorimbo recounted.

The Old Mutual Flexi funeral policy offers individual plans to suit everyone’s budget and the packages range from light, classic, premium to supreme.

However, additional riders are available on all plans, including policyholder income stabilization for six months, lump sum cash for groceries or other expenses, headstone, memorial service and a bus.

The product launch event also involved a tour of Harare CBD, Five Avenue en route to Africa Unity Square where there were product activations and the general public was given a platform to register to tangible service. – Herald
